Eventually our goal is to plant 8 million trees in Africa in the shape of a huge heart. Have a look at our website to see whether you like the project and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

  6. Great blog!

If the economics don’t work, recycling efforts won’t either.
As our little contribution to make this economics of recycling more appealing, http://LivePaths.com blogs about people and companies that make money selling recycled or reused items, provide green services or help us reduce our dependency on non renewable resources.

PS How can we trade links back to our blogs?

Hi David, I am enjoying your blog. There has never been a better time to own a “green buisness”

  16. David,

Your blog provides very insightful material.

We (my company, the Boice Dunham Group) are business development consultants active for many years in the energy, information, and finance industries for large corporations and new ventures. We are particularly focused on the adoption of innovative technology in order to transform behavior and attitudes.

As President Lyndon Baines Johnson is alleged to have said, the second law of leadership is to figure out where the people are going, and hustle around in front of them. The people don’t always know what lies ahead, so sometimes you have to tell them.

Could you e-mail me the Motivating Sustainable Consumption review from SDRN? It doesn’t download properly from their site.

  18. David:

As a former environmental engineer, I think you have combined the engineering & marketing domains quite nicely….

I enjoy reading the Marketing Green Blog; particularly thought the “Open Skies” piece was applicable to carbon mgt strategies in multiple verticals. I wanted to bring my blog to your attention, as I cover some of the same topics, but with the following attributes:

-Technology trends: CSR, cleantech (water, air, buildings), and those in engineering design, construction & operations

-Insights and anecdotes from my clients, prospects, partners, and thought leaders in the industry; typically CXOs at CSR, cleantech, IT, and global Environmental / Engineering design companies

-Focus on market and growth strategies for both services and tech firms in these markets

You are welcome to comment on any of my posts, or refer to them in your posts. Likewise, if you think my content may be of interest to your readers, I would welcome a link to my blog on your site (and do the same on mine). Thanks for your consideration.

  19. Green, green, green, green, green, green, green… everybody’s talking green.

But what about the other sustainability components?? Personal? Social? Spiritual?

We’ve done the research (including a super recent 5,000 people study of what people think of this thing called ‘sustainability’ – April, 2008), we know that people rate Global Warming and Pollution as important sustainability issues. But it didn’t top the list. Personal and social sustainability issues such as connecting with community and leading balanced life leapfrog environmental issues.

As one of the respondent from an early round of focus groups said’ How can i look after the environment, if i can’t look after myself??’. So many brands are missing the point. They haven’t taken an in-depth look at what sustainability actually means think that “green” is the sustainability story they need to be talking about, and they are rushing into something that isn’t right for them. Often, they are totally missing their own, brand-specific sustainability story, one that can powerfully express real actions and real values around other facets of sustainability.

Helping brands to understand this is what our company, CI, specializes in. When looking for the opportunity in the current ‘green rush’ we recommend avoiding knee-jerk green marketing and engaging in a process of introspection, innovation and strategic thinking to cultivate something far richer and, yes, far more sustainable, for your business.

  20. Hi David,

I came across your website when doing research for my term paper for a Marketing for Managers class. My paper takes on a discussion of how retail stores, big and small, use the green products and take on green initiatives to gain customers, profits, and brand recognition. Your site has been of great help and it will definitely keep me coming back. Thank you for all your work and for sharing your passion and knowledge with us.

  21. Hello David!!

What a great blog you have put together. For a diehard environmentalist whose been preaching to monetize the green movement as the first step towards sustainability, I find your work a breathe of fresh air. As an eco-entrepreneur who stumbled on your site the same day that I received a troubling market analysis report for my new green internet startup, I figured I’d save myself hours of research and just pose my $64,000 questions:

Given all the hype for going green, and the obvious shift towards moving every aspect of our lives online, where are the green websites that are pulling in the major traffic? A quick look at Comscore revealed some shocking data, that even Treehugger, argued to be the most frequented green site, backed by $15mill of Discovery Channel’s big bucks, isn’t even pulling in 1 million users per month.

So, my question is, how can a keynote speaker at last weekend’s GoGreenExpo stand up and like the IT boom of the 90’s as being in the millions and that the Green boom of the new millenium, that will take place over the next 10 years, will grow as massively and will be in the billions? Where are the numbers to support the boom???

  22. Hi, David,

Let me know if you’d like a review copy of my new book, Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World. Some call it “the green bible” for its comprehensive listing of green shopping and eco-lifestyle suggestions. But fundamentally, it’s designed to empower consumers — especially women — to use their marketplace clout to green manufacturing. It’s relying on word-of-mouth and word-of-web marketing tactics to wake up readers to their tremendous consumer clout and the powerful tool that can be to reduce climate change, protect air and water, and safeguard our own health. Thanks.

  23. Hey David,

  24. Hi David,

Your website/blog definitely captured my attention! Especially as I’m currently considering a future career (and further education) in the sustainable development field, and have a strong marketing/product development background (I’m quite familiar with Digitas).

My biggest concern these days is how to decipher what really is/isn’t “green” (however you want to define it) as I feel as though everyman and his dog has jumped on the green-marketing-band-wagon.

I’d be very appreciative of any comments you might have on this “quandry” and the blog I’m using to explore this (and other “green”) issues: http://www.howgreenis.blogspot.com.

    Libby

  27. Hi David,
I would like to conduct a small interview with you about marketing green, specifically consumer responses to corporate social responsibility. I am researching for a presentation on sustainability and would really appreciate your input.
    Thank you very much.

  28. Hi David,

Thanks for the wonderful writeup on Brickfish! From my perspective, it’s amazingly to see how and where users are sharing content across the Internet via the Brickfish Viral Map™. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for part two of the Driving Engagement and Viral Marketing Impact in Green series. Is it a three part series?

    Cheers,

  29. Dear David,

Having read your blogs, I must mention that you have addressed the current and future issues in marketing very thoroughly. I am a masters student in U.K. and am doing my masters dissertation on the need to introduce sustainable development in Marketing Communications degree program. For this purpose I am carrying out my research on the current awareness of students across marketing communication degrees. Matching this requirement I am also in need of interviews from professionals in this field who will share their knowledge and concern on the subject. If you have some time, I would love to interview you on two main issues:
    a) basic knowledge of sustainability that you believe every marketing communications student should possess
    b) the contribution of communications to a sustainable future

I hope that you can help me and look forward to your response.

  30. I was surfing the web for a green packaging partner and came across your site. great site great work your doing.
There might be some synergy here, check out PI.
IBC Creative packaging in Hayward Ca seems to be a great fit for us. They have been in business 49 years and are very Earth friendly.

  32. David,

I am the co-founder of EcoAlign, a strategic marketing and communications agency focused on energy and environment. We have just released our fourth EcoPinion survey issue, “Banking the Green: Customer Incentives for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Offerings.” We surveyed 1,000 Americans in July on what type of incentives or promotions will motivate customers to adopt green offerings or program offerings, and how companies, particularly utilities, should deliver and drive customer awareness of customer incentives. I think you may find it quite interesting as it ties to many of your excellent marketing points. You can download the report at http://www.ecoalign.com and then click on Download ecopinion.

If you want to have a conversation with me about the findings, please contact me -info is on the web.

    Cheers,

  33. Found this great resource tonight. I’m with Grow and Make, where we’re working to help consumers determine which products are truly sustainable with reviews, ratings and articles. Seems that the readers of this blog could create a great community on marketing/branding and the business of sustainability.

  34. Hi David

i think I will have a good look around your blog. We are promoting our green 100% free auction and classified directory – energybook.co.uk I am no longer sure that wehave the right name as the site has visitors from around the world but the .co.uk puts USA visitors off. I was using wxtrade.com which is still the domoan name – but again I don’t think it sounds green and international.

We also have a blog but as I am only able to work on the business part time it is difficult to get a lot of content on it – http://www.OneToRemember.co.uk/bog

We have lots of free green ebooks too so we are quite popular – http://www.OneToRemember.co.uk

I hope to learn from your blog and get my sites really working for me….

  35. David,

I am a student at Seattle University currently working on a project for school. I am really impressed with your site and was hoping you might be able to help me out with a couple of questions about marketing green and sources I could use for obtaining information about the “green” consumer. Hope to hear from you.

    Thanks,

    Evan

  36. Hi David,
My name is Lindsey Scott and I currently am working with several environmental companies in the fields of consumerism and sustainability. I would also love to get your contact information. Check out our new sustainable living site and social network that will launch January 23rd at http://www.planetrenewal.org

You have a great blog! I enjoy visiting it and all the blogs you link to. Would you be interested in a link exchange with my blog? It is webnaturally.blogspot.com.

  38. David,

I have been reading your blog for some time now and really enjoy it.

The reason for the email was to see if you fancy exchanging links on our sites to see if we can drive each other more traffic. I believe that some of the things I talk about on my blog resonate with what you say (although you do go more in depth!).

I would most appreciate it if you would, and think I could certainly attract more visitors for you this way.

    Kind regards,

    Graeme

  41. Have you ever came across a study that show top magazines that the TRUE GREEN consumer read?

I am trying to do my own analysis, but I feel that it is not complete and might be missing some.

  43. Hi David, My name is Francisca Ramirez and I attend Cascadia Community College and and currently working on a presentation for my mid term raising awareness in “green washing,” and I would appreciate it if I could ask you a few questions for my project.

1)What are some indicators that a company is greenwashing?
2)How can we know if the “gree” label is valid?
3)What is the government doing about enforcing regulations on greenwashing?

I would really appreciate a response, thanks so much!

The Singapore E-commerce Digital Group provides a unique, one-stop-shop for marketers who need guidance, tools and solutions for their digital marketing challenges – from singapore ecommerce solutions to email marketing, to SEO, to strategic consultancy.

  45. Great thank you for the article.
Checked earthsense’s site and was happy to learn that the US consumer moves towards eco-friendliness.
I lived in NYC for 12 years and there it was not an issue yet. Since two years I commute to Germany for work and it is a big issue here. Branding seems to be a problem here and Americans with their superior advertising knowledge could really help. Most things here are administered form above and the population is “eco” minded, but lacks enthusiasm and is still driving 200km/h on highways…

As a small company we need all the help we can get.

I’m wondering if you’d be interested in our story: I’ve attached an article about our company to have a look at, in case it’s something that yourself or followers of your blog might like to read. 52. Hi David, it is great to hear marketing talk from an academic. I believe this is an exciting time for a marketing strategy expert to be blogging – sustainability and reduction of carbon emission in business should be a priority for all businesses.

If you are interested (which broadly speaking you undoubtedly are) here is an infographic entitled “Reducing Carbon Emissions at Exhibitions” http://www.marlerhaley.co.uk/blog/?p=111

All the best – let me know what you think if you get a minute

  56. Wonderful blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Kudos!

  57. Amazing writing man. I’m a student in India and I believe that we need a lot more people like you in the world, who can express their beliefs in such a way that they inspire others. Get back to me so that I can also do what you have done…or at least half of it!!

  58. Thanks for the guidelines you have discussed here. Yet another thing I would like to express is that computer memory requirements generally increase along with other advancements in the technological know-how. For instance, when new generations of cpus are introduced to the market, there is usually a corresponding increase in the type calls for of both pc memory as well as hard drive room. This is because the software program operated through these processors will inevitably surge in power to benefit from the new engineering.

  59. whoah this blog is wonderful i like studying your
posts. Keep up the great work! You realize, lots of people are searching round for this info,
    you can help them greatly.
